The price of memory.
In perspective.
Published DDR4 and DDR5 chip spot-price snapshots, with the numbers and sources behind them.
Industry chip prices, in US dollars. These are not UK retail RAM prices or DIMMVAULT selling prices. The comparison is indicative: the October 2024 chart does not specify its averaging method; the latest reading is a single session on 12 October 2026.
DDR4
8Gb (1G×8), 3200 MT/s≈ +2,204% change between the published readings
DDR5
16Gb (2G×8), 4800/5600 MT/s≈ +826% change between the published readings
Both series use the same zero-based dollar scale. DDR4 and DDR5 have different chip capacities: compare each generation with its own starting value. No intervening prices or monthly trend are inferred.
What the comparison tells you
These published readings show a substantial increase in the quoted spot price of the two chip categories. They provide industry context; they do not measure the average increase paid by a UK memory buyer.
Finished modules also have their own capacity, specification, sourcing, currency and pricing arrangements. A change in chip spot prices should not be applied directly to a desktop kit or server DIMM.

Sources & methodology
- TEAMGROUP investor presentation, 22 November 2024, slide 15: October 2024 chart values of $2.00 for DDR4 and $6.42 for DDR5; attributed by TEAMGROUP to DRAMeXchange. The presentation does not define whether these monthly-labelled points are averages or month-end observations.
- TrendForce DRAM spot-price table: session averages of $46.079 for DDR4 8Gb (1Gx8) 3200 and $59.433 for DDR5 16Gb (2Gx8) 4800/5600. Table timestamp: 12 October 2026, 18:10 GMT+8. This source is a live page and may subsequently change.
Historical source limitation: TEAMGROUP’s slide prints inconsistent “GB” and chip-organisation labels. We interpret its two series as the corresponding DRAM chip categories, based on the DRAMeXchange attribution and speed labels. This mapping and the unspecified historical averaging method mean the calculated changes are indicative, not a fully verified like-for-like two-year price index.
Calculation: (latest published value ÷ historical published value − 1) × 100. Percentage changes are rounded to the nearest whole percentage point. No currency conversion, retail mark-up, VAT or shipping has been added. This is a dated editorial comparison, not an automatically updating market feed.
For an exact two-year UK retail index, a consistent historical basket of finished modules and comparable retailer observations would be needed. That dataset has not been established here.
